Summary

This trial will study whether providing reinforcement (in the form of vouchers) for negative alcohol tests and treatment attendance will increase the proportion of participants who respond to treatment for alcohol use disorders.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals with an alcohol use disorder who are starting intensive outpatient treatment. It's not suitable for those with conditions that could interfere with their participation in the study.
What is being tested?
The study tests if adding a reward system (Contingency Management) to standard care improves attendance and reduces alcohol consumption in patients. Participants will either receive standard care or standard care plus rewards for attending treatment and providing alcohol-free blood samples.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves behavioral interventions rather than medications, traditional side effects are not expected. However, participants may experience stress or disappointment when they do not meet the criteria for receiving rewards.
