Summary
This trial looks at the effects of a phone-based walking intervention.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults in the Columbia, SC area who have been diagnosed with arthritis or related conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, or fibromyalgia. Participants must be able to read and write in English and commit to staying in the region for a year. It's not suitable for those with exercise contraindications (other than arthritis), pregnant women, or individuals planning pregnancy.
What is being tested?
The study is testing a phone-based version of the Walk With Ease program to see how it affects people with arthritis over short-term (6 weeks and 6 months) and long-term periods (1 year). Participants will be randomly assigned to different groups as part of the research process.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves a walking program guided by phone support, side effects may include typical exercise-related issues such as muscle soreness or joint pain but are generally expected to be minimal.
