Summary

This trial uses a device to help people with early stage ALS strengthen their breathing muscles. Participants will use the device at home for several weeks to improve their ability to communicate, cough, and breathe. The study is conducted entirely online with virtual sessions.

Group I: Expiratory Muscle Strength TrainingExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
All participants will forcefully breathe out into an Expiratory Muscle Strength Training device (EMST-150) 25 times per day for 6 weeks. The EMST device will be set at a moderate intensity level (50% of each participant's maximum expiratory pressure).
