Summary
This trial will test a new web-based program to help manage pain in children with chronic and acute recurring pancreatitis, with the goal of reducing pain, pain-related disability and improving quality of life.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for kids aged 10-19 with chronic or acute recurring pancreatitis who've had at least 4 flare-ups in the past year, or a recent painful episode. They need internet access and must be able to read English at a 5th-grade level. It's not for those with certain genetic conditions, planned surgeries during the study, or severe pancreatic insufficiency.
What is being tested?
The study tests an online program teaching cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques for pain management against standard pain education. The goal is to reduce pain and improve quality of life in children with pancreatitis while also looking into genetic factors that might affect how well they respond to treatment.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves non-drug interventions like web-based CBT and education, there are no direct medical side effects expected. However, participants may experience discomfort from discussing their condition or frustration if they find navigating the program challenging.
