Summary

This trial will compare the effectiveness of two therapies, one of which has been shown to be effective in the past, for reducing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The therapies will be delivered via telehealth.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 who have suicidal thoughts or attempted suicide recently. Participants must speak English, own a device like a smartphone with internet access, and be able to consent. People can't join if they're unable to consent due to mental status issues, need immediate hospitalization for suicide risk, or have an acute substance use disorder.
What is being tested?
The study compares two types of therapy delivered via telehealth: Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) aimed at preventing suicide and Present-Centered Therapy (PCT), which serves as an active comparison treatment. The goal is to see if BCBT reduces suicidal thoughts and behaviors more effectively when done remotely.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves psychological therapies conducted through telehealth services rather than medication, traditional side effects are not expected. However, participants may experience emotional discomfort discussing sensitive topics during therapy sessions.
