Summary

This trial aims to see if hearing aids that provide low-level sound can help Veterans with normal hearing who suffer from bothersome tinnitus. The idea is that amplifying background sounds might make the tinnitus less noticeable. Using hearing aids may help by making the tinnitus less noticeable and improving communication. The study will test this on 20 Veterans to support a larger future study.

Measure the reduction in tinnitus handicap when mild amplification through receiver-in-the-canal hearing aids is provided to adults with bothersome tinnitus and normal hearing thresholds.
Group II: VA Clinician InterviewsActive Control1 Intervention
Document the opinions, procedures, and rationale used clinically to make decisions regarding fitting mild amplification for tinnitus on Veterans with bothersome tinnitus and normal hearing thresholds. The data for this arm of the study will be collected via telephone interview.
