Summary
This trial is testing whether playing calming sounds during outpatient vascular surgery can help reduce pain, stress, anxiety, heart rate, and blood pressure. Adult patients undergoing these procedures will either have the surgery with or without the immersive soundscape. The goal is to see if the soothing sounds make the experience more comfortable for patients. Music has been used historically for therapeutic purposes, including reducing stress and anxiety in various medical settings.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking adults who are undergoing outpatient vascular surgery for varicose veins. It's not suitable for those who need an interpreter or can't consent.
What is being tested?

Other Research
Common treatments for varicose veins include sclerotherapy, laser therapy, and endovenous ablation. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution into the vein, causing it to scar and blood to reroute through healthier veins.
Laser therapy uses light energy to close off varicose veins, while endovenous ablation employs heat to achieve the same effect. These treatments are crucial as they alleviate symptoms like pain and swelling, improve appearance, and prevent complications.
Reducing stress and anxiety, as studied in immersive soundscape trials, can complement these treatments by improving overall patient well-being and potentially enhancing recovery outcomes.
