Summary

This trial will test a new smartphone app called PartnerCHESS, which helps people recovering from alcohol use disorder and their partners. The app combines therapy techniques and relapse prevention tools, and it alerts doctors if the patient might relapse. The goal is to see if this app can improve recovery outcomes for couples dealing with AUD. The PartnerCHESS app is a new iteration of the A-CHESS system, which has previously shown improved drinking outcomes over standard continuing care.

Patient's partner randomized to the PartnerCHESS group will receive all A-CHESS services listed above, plus learning modules and resources from Alcohol-based Couple Therapy.
Group II: PartnerCHESS DrinkerExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Patients randomized to the PartnerCHESS group will receive all A-CHESS services listed above, plus learning modules and resources from Alcohol-based Couple Therapy.
Group III: A-CHESS DrinkerActive Control1 Intervention
Patients randomized to the A-CHESS group will receive the A-CHESS app on a smartphone.
Group IV: A-CHESS PartnerActive Control1 Intervention
Patient's partner randomized to the A-CHESS group will receive the A-CHESS app on a smartphone.
