Summary
This trial is studying how well brain imaging works in people with binge eating disorder or bulimia nervosa.
Who is the study for?
Adults aged 18-55 with obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m2) and diagnosed with Bulimia Nervosa or Binge Eating Disorder, experiencing marked distress from binge eating. Participants should have a stable weight and food intake for the past month, no major medical illnesses, no history of substance abuse or certain psychiatric disorders, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and without metal implants.
What is being tested?
The trial is studying how negative emotions affect people with bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. It aims to link these feelings to brain function related to reward learning, food value computation, cognitive control circuits, and whether this can predict future eating behavior.
What are the potential side effects?
Since this study focuses on behavioral tasks rather than medication or invasive procedures, significant side effects are not expected. However, participants may experience emotional discomfort when discussing their eating habits or during assessments.

Eligibility Criteria:
This trial includes the following eligibility criteria:- You have a condition called binge eating disorder, where you frequently eat large amounts of food in a short period of time.You eat really fast, much faster than usual.You often eat a lot of food even when you're not actually hungry.My weight has been within 10% of my average since puberty.I am considered medically obese.I have been obese for at least one year.I am 18-55, with a BMI over 30, stable diet for 4 weeks, right-handed as per EHI-R, and have been obese for at least a year.You feel like you can't control your eating during certain episodes.Your thoughts about your body shape and weight have a big impact on how you see yourself.You eat so much that you feel very uncomfortable afterwards.Your Edinburgh Handedness Inventory Revised (EHI-R) LQ* score is higher than +200.You have a diagnosis of Bulimia Nervosa, which means you often eat large amounts of food in a short time period, more than most people would eat in the same situation.I am not pregnant, breastfeeding, on certain medications, have a psychiatric disorder, a major illness, substance abuse history, or metal implants.I am 18-55 years old with Binge Eating Disorder and right-handed as per the EHI-R.I am between 18 and 55 years old.You feel really bad, sad, or guilty after eating too much.People who are in good health and do not have any medical conditions.You have a condition called bulimia nervosa, which involves binge eating and purging.Your body mass index (BMI) is greater than 30 kg/m2.You regularly engage in unhealthy behaviors to avoid gaining weight, like making yourself throw up, using too many laxatives or diuretics, not eating for long periods, or exercising excessively.You have a diagnosis of Binge Eating Disorder, which means you frequently have episodes of eating large amounts of food in a short period of time.I am 18-55, have a healthy weight, regular menstrual cycles (if applicable), and am right-handed.You feel very upset and distressed about your binge eating.Your binge eating episodes are not followed by attempts to "make up" for it, like purging or excessive exercise.You feel embarrassed eating by yourself.You have been following a consistent eating schedule for the past 4 weeks.
