Non-invasive Brain Stimulation
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Overactive Bladder
Phase < 1
Waitlist Available
Research Sponsored by University of Southern California
Eligibility Criteria Checklist
Specific guidelines that determine who can or cannot participate in a clinical trial Must have
Be older than 18 years old
Timeline
Screening 3 weeks
Treatment Varies
Follow Up feasibility will be assessed after completion of the study, up to 6 months.
Awards & highlights
No Placebo-Only Group
Summary
This trial tests if rTMS, a procedure using magnetic fields to stimulate brain cells, can help women with overactive bladder and urgency urinary incontinence. By targeting brain areas that control bladder muscles, rTMS may improve bladder control and reduce urgent urination.
Eligible Conditions
- Overactive Bladder
- Urge Incontinence

Study Objectives
Study objectives can provide a clearer picture of what you can expect from a treatment.Primary study objectives
Effects of rTMS on pelvic floor muscle activity after high-frequency rTMS
Effects of rTMS on pelvic floor muscle activity after low-frequency rTMS
Effects of rTMS on pelvic-SMA activity after high-frequency rTMS
+1 moreSecondary study objectives
Assess objective OAB and UUI symptom changes following rTMS
Assess subjective OAB and UUI symptom changes following rTMS
Other study objectives
Feasibility of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) use in women with overactive bladder (OAB) and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI)
Awards & Highlights
No Placebo-Only Group
All patients enrolled in this study will receive some form of active treatment.

Experimental Treatment
Group I: Low Frequency rTMS ProtocolExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Low frequency 1 Hz at 80% motor threshold intensity with figure-of-eight coil for a total of 2,000 pulses. Pulses will be delivered continuously.
Group II: High Frequency rTMS ProtocolExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
High frequency with 10 Hz at 80% motor threshold intensity with figure-of-eight coil for a total of 2,000 pulses. Pulses will be delivered in 10-second trains with a 50-second pause between the trains.
